Imani
A Contemporary Christian Band
March 1, 2006 - Who would have thought there would be a common thread between Helena and Africa? And who would have thought it would start with a group of musicians with a love of Contemporary Christian music? When the group Imani formed four years ago, they chose that name because it means “Faithful” in Swahili. In their name they found a message to share with others in their community.
The musicians include Jim McKinley from Mobile, Alabama on lead guitar and vocals; Mike Lenz, also from Mobile on bass guitar and vocals; Terry Charcandy from Madison, West Virginia on drums; and Deb Scott from Estherville, Iowa on keyboard. Angela Martin of Ashland, Alabama, Ann Garzarek of Birmingham and Donna Cavanaugh of Greenfield, New York provide vocals.
“Today’s contemporary Christian music is one of my passions,” says guitarist Mike Lenz. “We love being able to give something back to our community through song.”
