The goal of our church mission outreach is make disciples and to show the love and grace of Jesus Christ with everyone everywhere! 

Local Outreach Programs

As a church, we have a special responsibility as set forth in scripture to help our families, schools and neighbors. We have various ongoing opportunities for you to stay engaged and serve others. 
This group continues to make prayer shawls, lapghans, and baby blankets to distribute to church members and the community. They also continue to make plarn mats for the shelters as well. The group meets on Thursday afternoons at 2:00 pm if you would like to join us!
Firehouse Ministries
We continue to provide dinner at the downtown men's shelter on the first Thursday of the month. 
Manna Ministries- Alabaster
Grocery delivery for families in need is ongoing through curb side pick up at this ministry in Alabaster. Volunteers are needed on Saturday morning, October 16 from 7:00-10:30am to help with loading the groceries into client's vehicles. 
Ronald McDonald House- Birmingham
Through your faithful giving to our Faith Promise fund for missions, we have been able to provide meals and gift cards  for the families who are currently staying at their downtown facility. 
Sozo Trading Store- Avondale
Proceeds from their store benefit the Sozo Children's home in Uganda. We will be serving there sorting donations on a regular basis.  There is something for all ages to do there! 
The WellHouse
This ministry provides residential, therapeutic programs to female victims of human trafficking who have been sexually exploited. Interested volunteers can complete an on-line training sessions at the cost of $40. We will sponsor game nights with the residents this fall so if you are interested in volunteering let us know.
Morning Prayer Group- Thursday morning
This group meets each week to pray for the church, our community and the world.

Helena UMC has sponsored our Festival of Three Kings project for over 10 years -- where church members buy Christmas gifts for the foster children in Shelby County DHR ... plus the church holds a morning of games, Santa visits and more for the foster children each December. 

It's one of our favorite mission projects each year!

Soldier Care Packages - monthly
Each month a care package is shipped overseas to those serving in our military. Items that are specifically requested would be: powder laundry detergent, dryer sheets, protein bars, , body wash and deodorant, feminine body wash and shampoo. You may drop off your donations in the hallway located next to the fellowship hall. 

National Mission Opportunities
Appalachian Service Project
We will travel to Jonesville, VA October 14-17 to help make homes warmer, safer and drier for local residents. If you like to swing a hammer or paint, then join us on this journey into Appalachia. 

International Mission Opportunities
TMS Global- Costa Rica
We will partner with Beth & Brian Tatum in March 2023 to send another team to work alongside them in their ministry. If you would like to know more details about the trip, let us know.
BMDMI Honduras- Eric & Christy Duplantis
 The team of six people from multiple churches was blessed to be able to provide medical care, medicines, and food and clothing to the village of Las Tunas in May. As a church, we contributed funding for the purchase of rice and beans to local villages in Honduras through our missionaries Eric & Christy Duplantis. Thank you, Helena UMC!
Sozo Children- Uganda
This ministry exists to provide care for neglected, abandoned children who live on the streets in Uganda. Their new facility is home to more than a 100 children where they receive schooling, medical care and most importantly love.  Their local thrift marketplace store located in Avondale helps to support the facility in Uganda. Volunteer opportunities are available to sort clothing at the thrift store any weekend.
