WINTER KICKOFF: WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 10

Join us for a special Choral Concert Fundraiser on January 10 as we kick off Wednesday Night Dinners! The choir will be doing "Best of" anthems, as well as a variety of solos, duets and other acts all for your enjoyment. We will be raising money for our music ministry and new choir robes to go along with our new sanctuary! Hope you all can join the fun!

Guys' Bible Study
Need a guys' Bible study and a daily devotional guide? Get both with this ongoing group! We focus on creating a space for fellowship and connecting our faith with our daily life struggles and joys. The class is open to guys of all ages and uses the 365-day daily devotional guide, The Upper Room Disciplines 2018. Cost of book is $15.00. The class meets outside in the pavilion and in the case of inclement weather in room 200 upstairs. Class is led by Brandon Baker (bbaker@ritehite.com) and Brian Henley (brian_henley@hotmail.com)

TED Talks
 e Join the class each week as a different podcast is discussed. Topics include education business, science, tech and creativity and how it relates to living as a Christian in today's world. Class is led by Stan Brown and Norman Patty and is free to everyone; class begins January 17. 

Fellowship Bible Study
The Fellowship Bible Study is a drop-in class open to all young adults and families. The group focuses on a journey through the Bible and diving into its  connection and relevance in our lives today. The class is led by Henry and June Long. hal5388@gmail.com or juunne@gmail.com.

Stepping Up

This seven-session women’s study on the book Psalms explores the themes of unity, joy, gratitude, redemption, repentance and the power of blessings and facing ridicule. Psalms is a model of how we can voice our praises and petitions to God who is always available to hear us. Class begins January 31 and is led by Dr. Mary Henley; cost of book is $13.00. 

Basic United Methodist Beliefs
Want to learn more about who we are and what we believe as United Methodists?  Then come and be a part of this study about Methodism and our roots. Class is led by Rev. Ted Leach and is free to everyone; begins January 17. 

Church of the Small Things
This study speaks directly to the heart of women of all ages who are longing
to find significance and meaning in the normal, sometimes mundane world of raising kids, working in the office and cooking chicken for dinner. Author Melanie Shankle helps women embrace what it means to live a simple, 
yet incredibly meaningful life. Cost of book $15.00. Class facilitator is Julie English; class begins January 17.

Prayer Beads
This three-week class will focus on the various forms of prayer and each 
participant will make your own prayer bead chain. Prayer beads can be used to enhance your prayer time! Class is led by Pam Townsend and there is no fee for the class. Dates for class are January 17, 24 and 31. 

The 5 Love Languages
Falling in love is easy. Staying in love is the challenge. Author Gary Chapman 
will help you and your partner to discover how to show love and receive
love in a deeper and more meaningful way. Includes couples’ personal profile assessment so you can discover each other’s love language. Class lasts seven weeks and begins on Sunday, January 21 and will be held 4:00 - 5:00 p.m. Facilitators are Tony and Cissy Johnson and cost of book is $12.00. 

Leadership Skills
This four-week class is for 3rd - 5th grade boys only. Topics include digital skills (internet usage and social media) social skills, table manners and how to behave in a social setting in particular — church. Scriptural reference will be included in each lesson with an emphasis on how God wants us to behave. Parents are welcome to attend with their child. Class is led by Shawnna Bailey and is free; begins January 17.

Hebrews: Wednesdays at 10:00 a.m.
Hebrews is an invitation to listen to God & to slow down from the daily demands of living. This seven-week study will be your guide to hear God’s word with an open heart. Class is led by Peggy Scott; cost of book: $9.00. 
Class begins on January 17 at 10:00 a.m.                

HUMC Freezer Meals
Freezer Meals provides the opportunity to prepare meals for your family ahead of time. The menu usually consists of four entrees and two breakfasts
or four entrees, one breakfast and a dessert. Extra meals will be made to bless other families with a meal and show the love of Christ. Registration will be through Sign Up Genius. Limited to 8 people per session. Facilitators: Amy Downs & Heather Simmons. When: Sunday afternoons - dates TBA. Cost: $60.00 per person.

Running Group
Ready to run? Come join the HUMC running group. We’ll do devotions before each run that relate to running and perseverance. Our goal is to train to complete a 5K. Come join us in a great fellowship and workout time. Meet at the pavilion at the church Sundays at 5:00 p.m. beginning on Sunday, January 14. Questions? YOGA CLASS ... ALL LEVELS WELCOME

Mondays at 6:30 p.m. in the Fellowship Hall; $5.00 per class
Be a good steward of the body God has given you! Join certified Yoga Instructor Erin Roberson as she leads a yoga class of breathing, stretching and strengthening. Erin said class starts right on time each week ... so arrive early if you can!

KNITWITNESSES - thursdays   2:30 - 4:30 P.M.


Our weekly KnitWitnesses group knits prayer shawls, lap blankets and plarn mats every Thursday afternoon in room 120 (Parlor). 





This lively group always needs more help and would love to teach you how to

knit or make plarn 

mats if you're interested, so just stop by any Thursday! 


The prayer shawls and lap blankets are for folks dealing with health issues or loss of a loved one and the plarn mats are given to the homeless here in Birmingham, as well as sent to children in need in Africa through one of our mission partners.
