Guys' Bible Study

Need a guys bible study and a daily devotional guide? Get both with this ongoing group! We focus on creating a space for fellowship and connecting our faith with our daily life struggles and joys. The class is open to guys of all ages and uses the 365 daily devotional, The Upper Room Disciplines 2017. Cost of book is $15.00. The class meets outside in the pavilion and in the case of inclement weather in room 200. Class is led by Brandon Baker , and Brian Henley, Wednesday evening class will resume on September 13.

Living Your Strengths
Come discover your unique top 5 God-given strengths and talents and how you can use them to serve God. Your top strengths impact how you live out your faith and the other aspects of your life. The class is based on the book, Living Your Strengths, by Donald Clifton and Albert Wiseman, and utilizes the online Clifton Strengths Finder assessment. Registration is limited to 20 people. Each participant should complete the online assessment before the first class. The class is highly interactive and is cumulative so attendance at all six classes is encouraged. Class is led by Dr. Mary Henley and Wendy Kallaher and will begin on September 20. Cost is $20.00 and includes book and workbook. 

Disciple II- fast track
Fast Track is a newly designed part of the Disciple family of Bible studies. This study will deepen your understanding of scripture and make connections between what you already know and what you are reading. The group will meet for 24 weeks, devoting 12 weeks each to Genesis- Exodus and Luke-Acts.  Class is led by Bruce Dooley. Cost is $34.00.

Three Simple Rules
This study is based on the book Three Simple Rules: A Wesleyan Way of Living. The six sessions provide extended reflection on the three principles of Christian life: do no harm, do good and love God. Each session will delve into one rule and explore ways to practice the rule. Class is led by Rev. Ted Leach. Cost is $8.00.

TED Talks
10 weekly stand alone sessions that will each discuss a different TED talk podcast. TED Talks are influential videos from expert speakers on education, business, science, tech and creativity. Each session covers a different topic with a discussion on how this topic influences each of us as a Christian living in today's world. The class is open to everyone and is led by Stan Brown and Norman Patty. Free class. Drop- ins welcome. 

Financial Peace- 2 classes
Financial Peace is a nine-week, biblically based class on money, taught by America's most trusted financial guru, Dave Ramsey. The class will teach you how to manage your finances God's way. Psalms 24:1 says,"The earth is the Lord's and the fullness thereof." Topics covered include: the Seven Baby Steps,  relationships and money, budgeting, insurance, retirement, saving for college and the foundation for generous giving. 
Class is led by Joanne Bailey on Wednesday evening at 6:30pm beginning September 13. Cost is $50.00- limited supply available. Regular price $110.00.
Class also offered on Thursday evening at 6:30pm beginning September 14 with Jay & Kathryn Reeves leading. 

The Legacy Journey is a seven week biblically based class that teaches how to truly live and leave a legacy for generations to come. Dave Ramsey, American's most trusted financial guru, covers the following topics: Biblical principles of wealth, stocks, bonds & mutual funds, estate planning and the power of giving. 
 Class is led by Tom Weideman and begins on Wednesday September 13 at 6:30pm. Cost is $50.00- limited supply available. Regular price $ 120.00.

DivorceCare is 12-week support group for those who are experiencing divorce or separation. Each week features a video session featuring an expert on each topic: the road to healing; facing anger, depression, and loneliness; new relationships and financial survival. Class is led by Ann Cobb. Cost is $15.00.

Loving My Actual Life
In a world of comparison and discontent, it can feel impossible to be happy with life as we know it. In this 9-week session, the author chronicles her 9-month experiment to rekindle her love of her ordinary, actual life. Each week will focus on one aspect of life and how to incorporate small changes along with a spiritual theme. Class is led by Michelle Hall and Heather Simmons. Cost of book is $9.00.

Leadership Skills & Guidance- 4th-5th grade girls
Topics include digital skills (internet usage and social media), social skills, table manners and how to behave in a social setting in particular- church. Scriptural reference is included in each lesson. Parents are welcome to attend with their child. Class is led by Shawnna Bailey. No cost. 

Praying the Hymns- Wednesday 10:00am
9-week study of the United Methodist Hymnal- look, find and claim the prayers and witness to God's grace. Class is led by Peggy Scott and limited to 12 people. No cost for class. 

Disciple I-fast track- Monday September 11 
Disciple I Fast Track, part of the Disciple family of Bible studies, provides a great option for busy people just like you who seek to gain a better understanding of the Bible and want to grow as disciples. The group will meet for a total of 24 weeks, devoting 12 week each to the Old Testament and the New Testament. Class is led by Rev. Ted Peterson on Monday evening at 6:30pm. Cost is $34.00.

Disciple III- Sunday September 10
The third study in the Disciple family of Bible studies is a 32-week study of the Old Testament and the letters of Paul. The prophets and Paul are continually calling us to remember who we are as children of God. The God of the prophets is the God of Paul and God's offer of salvation runs throughout the Bible. 
 Class is led by Steve Shadix and begins on Sunday September 10 at 3:00pm. Cost is $38.00.

Reading Music 101- Sunday September 17
6-week class will cover the fundamentals of reading music and singing techniques. A brief history of the United Methodist hymnal will be included. Class is led by Daniel deShazo on Sunday afternoon at 4:00pm. No cost for class.  

Freezer Meals
 Freezer Meals provide the opportunity to prepare meals for you family ahead of time. The menu usually consists of four entrees, two breakfasts and a dessert. Extra meals will be made to bless other families and show the love of Christ. Class is led by Amy Downs and Heather Simmons and you may register for the class thru SignUp Genius. Class is limited to 8 people per session. Dates are Sunday September 17 and October 15 from 2:00-4:00pm. Cost is $60.00 per person.

Be a good steward of the body God has given you! Join certified Yoga Instructor Erin Roberson as she leads a yoga class of breathing, stretching and strengthening. Erin said class starts right on time each week ... so arrive early if you can! 

KNITWITNESSES - thursdays   2:30 - 4:30 P.M.

Our weekly KnitWitnesses group knits prayer shawls, lap blankets and plarn mats every Thursday afternoon in room 120 (Parlor). 

This lively group always needs more help and would love to teach you how to

knit or make plarn 

mats if you're interested, so just stop by any Thursday! 

The prayer shawls and lap blankets are for folks dealing with health issues or loss of a loved one and the plarn mats are given to the homeless here in Birmingham, as well as sent to children in need in Africa through one of our mission partners.

Men's Ministry

Our men's group meets once a month on the second Tuesday of the month in the evening for fellowship and to plan for future mission outreaches. Our group also holds many service days throughout the year to work on community projects for those in need.
